What Is Polished Concrete?
Polished concrete is an existing concrete slab that's been mechanically ground, hardened and polished with progressively finer diamond tools until it's smooth and reflective. Nothing is coated on top. The shine comes from the concrete itself.
During the process, a chemical densifier is applied to harden the surface and reduce dust. If you want a harder, sealed floor without the high shine, see densified & sealed concrete.

Polished Concrete FAQs
Can my existing concrete floor be polished?
Most slabs can, including older floors once carpet, tile or coatings are removed. Cracks, patches and stains may still show through, since polishing reveals the concrete rather than covering it. We'll inspect your floor and show you what to expect.
Is polished concrete slippery?
Despite its shine, polished concrete typically offers good traction when clean and dry. Like most hard floors, it can become slippery when wet or dusty, so regular cleaning and entrance mats are recommended.
How do I maintain a polished concrete floor?
Dust-mop daily and clean with a pH-neutral cleaner. There's no waxing or stripping. High-traffic areas can be re-burnished periodically to restore the shine.
Does polished concrete stain?
Polished concrete is dense, and we apply a stain guard, but it isn't completely stain-proof. Oils, wine and acidic spills should be wiped up promptly. Where heavy chemical exposure is expected, epoxy flooring may be the better choice.
Is the polishing process dusty?
We use grinders connected to industrial vacuum systems to control dust, which keeps your space much cleaner than older methods. Some projects use wet grinding instead, depending on the site.
What's the difference between polished and densified concrete?
Both use a densifier to harden the concrete. Polished concrete goes through more grinding steps to create a smooth, reflective finish. Densified and sealed concrete focuses on hardening and dust-proofing with a lower sheen and lower cost.
